Last September a group of us gathered the apples from the orchard at IVC as part of our juicing weekend. Fortunately the HICOP group have been given the opportunity to take on the responsibility of care and maintenance of these lovely 50 year old Lord Lambourne trees.
The East of England Apples and Orchards Project is a local charity that works to preserve and promote orchard fruits. It grows stock of about 250 varieties of fruit trees that come from Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
So, just six months after the start of the Community Orchard project, HICOP have been given approval by Histon Parish Council (as/when lease is finally signed with the County Council) for a one acre Orchard on the Manor Park site adjacent to the Guided Busway.
