Want to get your hands dirty?

The first time we roughly marked out the site we began to realize quite how much time and effort was needed to transform a very large area of rough overgrown grassland into a beautiful orchard that the whole community could enjoy. You don’t have to make a huge time commitment – just a few hours a year is a help.

If you feel you can contribute some time, effort, or skills to the orchard, please get in touch or come along to one of our meetings or events and introduce yourself. Enthusiasm is just as important as skills, so don’t be put off if you’re not a keen gardener (or a tractor driver!).

We have maintenance days once a month, generally a couple of hours on a Sunday morning. If we are having an event at the orchard, we try to organize the maintenance day for just before the event. Across the winter, some months may not have a maintenance day. You don’t even need to stay for the entire session, just however much time you can spare.

More hands are always appreciated on events days, whether it’s helping to set up stalls, looking after the gates or lending a hand with refreshments.

The orchard is located between the Guided Busway and Manor Park, accessible via footpaths from Somerset Road or Saffron Road. The ground and some pathways can get muddy during the winter months.
