Bug Hotels and Bat Bedrooms

Children from Histon and Impington Junior School have been working on a project to design and build bug hotels.

The children researched bug hotels, the creatures that might live in them and the material they like to live in. Over the Easter holidays, the children drew up their own designs for bug hotels. Four designs were chosen to be built in the Orchard – three bug hotels and a bat box. Choosing the four designs to be built was very difficult.

The bug hotels were constructed in May with the children, parents and volunteers putting together the framework, and all the different materials to provide homes for a variety of insects. The bat box was put up in a tree in the woodland just to the North-West of the orchard.

Take a look at the designs and photos from the construction and why not visit the finished results in the orchard.
