Schools visit

In the week before the Spring school holidays Mark Bianco (our Treasurer) visited Histon and Impington Infants and Junior schools. He gave a talk at the assemblies to all the pupils and teachers to explain what the Community Orchard project was about. We are keen to get the schools involved in the project and part of the orchard plan calls for an area that can be used as an outdoor classroom.

All the pupils’ parents were given a letter/email about the project from Jane Morris and Lynn Saunders giving details of the project. Included was a space for the children to draw a design of how they would like it to be. They were also asked to say what they would like to see growing there and what they would want to do there. It is very important to involve the children as they are the future of the orchard and will be around when it comes to full maturity.

The children seemed very enthusiastic and we are looking forward to the responses after the Easter break. Mark and Jacqueline will meet up with Jane and Lynn after the holiday to look at the responses and then report back to the rest of the management committee. We are looking forward to and excited about the children being involved as it will then start to be a truly community project. Look out for more news in the near future.
